In 2003, I made a New Years resolution to
write every day. This came about partly as a
right-brain response to a left-brain semester in
law school, partly as a rebellion against the
writers block that continues to plague me
even today. The idea was to force myself to write
by making a public commitment and publicly posting
my writings every day. Thus, The Daily
Strick was born.
It quickly took on a life of its own, evolving
from an informal Web log (blog) to a
daily editorial column. More often than not, I
stayed up too late composing a too-well-researched
article, rather than spending 15 minutes
summarizing the days events in typical blog
style. Though this meant the project became more of
an end than a meansmy original intent was to
use the site as a way to jump-start my creativity,
not consume itat least I was writing.
The close of 2003 also meant the end of
The Daily Strick, since I had conceived
it as a yearlong project from the start. But even
now, I still get random emails from total strangers
who find my articles in search engines, and the
site receives a steady stream of new visits every
day. After composing nearly 250
articles100,000 wordsIve
published enough content on the Internet to draw in
people who Google everything from aardvark
to Zarathustra.
Browse the links to the right to read some of my
favorite columns from the year of writing. Or

Archives. It's been my
pleasure to entertain, engage and exasperate
you.
